Easy Watercolor Christmas Cards–Christmas in July

Hello and welcome back to another blog post! Today starts a new series for my blog: Christmas in July. All throughout the month, I will be featuring Christmas cards and tags so that we can get a jump start on the holidays. Today’s cards featuring an easy watercolor technique and a large sentiment from the Mama Elephant Merry Christmas Wishes stamp set. These would be easy to mass produce for your holiday cards.

To watch me make these cards in detail, please watch the video below!

The first card uses the Gansai Tanbi Watercolor palette. If you are looking to get started with watercolors, I highly recommend this set. I used two green colors, and one red color, a just slapped down the color loosely. To finish this card off, I added some sequins from the Pretty Pink Posh Holly Jolly Christmas mix.

Card two features the Starry Watercolor Palette, also by Gansai Tanbi. I wanted this card to be really shimmery, so I used all of the gold colors in the palette. To me, Christmas just seems to pull gold over silver (why am I assigning holidays colors, I will never understand). I did use two coats of color for this card. For all of these cards, I used 3M foam tape to pop them up onto Neenah Solar White 110 lb card bases.

On the third card, I used the Gem Watercolor Palette to create stripes across the card. I love the way the green, red and gold look from this palette. They lean warm, which I really like. To finish off this card, I added a few sequins from the Pretty Pink Posh Classic Christmas sequin mix.

Card four features oxide inks this time instead of watercolors. Green and red could get really brown really quickly, but the great thing about oxide inks is that wet ink on dry ink layers. I started with the green layer, dried it completely with my heat gun, and then went in with the red inks. Overall, this one looks the most messy, but it is very colorful and it really does scream “Christmas”.

Be sure that you come back to my blog all month long as we get a head start on making our Christmas and holiday cards. Please subscribe to my blog to get email alerts when I post new content. Do you make cards early? I would love to hear from you in the comments!
